Hi, Jim here on the NW side of Lummi Island. Trying to set up an ER comm plan w/ my wife, if I'm in B'ham and she's at home. Using 2 Ailuance HA1G (UV).
I was able to listen in to the Net Meetings this past week from my back deck (no roof) and hear Bellingham, Lookout Mt well, & Sumas ok. Used both a Nagoya GMRS whip & a Diamond Dual Band whip. Both equally well. No one heard me when I tried to check in - not surprising. (I did connect w/ the B'ham repeater a few days earlier in the front yard & moved a foot and it got better - but can't duplicate).
Clearly need to improve antenna on the home front.
In the meantime, trying to set up a tentative plan, I'm in B'ham and use B'ham & LM; wife is in car, w/ grms on roof and drives to best point on the island to hear me from either repeater. We tested this from the house this week; I was in the Coop Parking Lot on Cordata, she at home w/ HA1 using both antennas; she could hear me well using LM but not from. the B'ham. I barely heard her on the LM, but if couldn't make out any distinct words.
I'd like to get the long/lat and elevation of the B'ham & LM repeaters (and a map perhaps of the signal path, etc) so I can position myself best in B'hm for our next test hopefully on Tuesday, using home and several points on the island. I will be at one point in B'ahm, although in an ER I could be several place.
I have made contact from the ferry dock on the island to LM just fine (haven't tried B'ham yet). If the roads are clear to get to the dock, then no problem for her but if not - lots of trees and part of a mountain waiting to fall and cover the roads) planning to test several locations on the island.
And I realize we could both make it by car to the ferry docks on either side and talk using simplex..that's another test....but the ferry is out, docks broken etc.
