Introduce yourself — who's behind the call sign?

One of the best parts of a local radio group is knowing the folks on the other end — so let's get acquainted.

I'll go first: I'm Tyler (WSME731), and I put this site together so we'd have one easy place to find the net schedule, ask questions, and keep in touch off the air. I got into GMRS because I wanted a reliable way to reach family and neighbors when cell service is jammed or down.

Your turn — hit Reply below and tell us a little about yourself: your name or call sign, what part of the area you're in, and what got you interested in radio. Brand new to all this? Even better — this is exactly the place to start.

Hey, Tyler, great website!
I'm David, WSKS562 in Bellingham.
I've been a ham radio operator for many years, but my jeeping buddies didn't want to take the time and effort to become ham radio operators, so whenever we would go offroading they would always bring FRS radios.  Those little walkie talkies are very convenient, but lack the power to talk very far.  When I found out that GMRS uses all the FRS frequencies, I decided to get a GMRS license and a more powerful radio that would have the ability to transmit farther.
I decided to get the BTech handheld for one main reason.  It utilizes bluetooth so I can interface with the Cardo intercom in my motorcycle helmet.  It also uses a bluetooth push-to-talk button mounted on the handlebars of my motorcycle.  The cool thing is, whenever I'm not using it on the motorcycle, the radio can be used with my AfterShokz headphones.
I look forward to chatting with folks here on this forum.
